Since my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, I have always been fascinated by CAD. CAD is an abbreviation for Computer-Aided Design. CAD has revolutionised the design process and has a long history of its evolution.
Even in my lifetime, I started learning on a drawing board that involved standing all day working on a white sheet and drawing using various drafting tools. Back then, the hardness of the pencil lead used to be critical for a professional-looking drawing. Check out the information Wikipedia has for the Drafter.
I am glad my days of old-school drafting were short, and CAD soon came to the rescue. I believe drawing on the board has made me appreciate the value of CAD and specifically 3D CAD. Coming up with a concept design has become a fast and enjoyable process.
Here is a video from D3 Technologies, which provides short and yet insightful information about the evolution of CAD.
